Michigan expatriate musician Melvyn Price recorded three records in the early 1970s in his adopted home of Sweden that have become classics in their own right. Price, a trombonist and conguero, recorded two rhythm albums for ballet dancers called Jazzbalettrytmer (Jazz Ballet Rhythm) in 1970 and Rhytmer II in 1971. They were quite popular in Sweden – despite being orchestrated by primarily rhythm instruments. Encouraged, he attended Stockholm's University College for music education where he studied composition.

Harlequin’s Patchwork is the debut EP from Brighton outfit Wax Machine, and it’s an ambitious collection of alternative tunes that feel as if they’ve strayed from the pages of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. The four-track release waxes and wanes (as the track names state) through changes in tempo and duration in true avant-garde style, demonstrating the varied musical talents that exist within the Wax Machine…

"The This" is what could best be described as a psychedelic journey into your deepest childhood fantasies… The four track EP covers a vast range of genres and can be comparable to works as diverse as psychedelic 60’s Dutch collective, The Fool, The Doors, The Beatles, MGMT, and Jethro Tull. With the mixture of experimental sounds and prog rock inspiration, this EP is a trip in and out of itself!
Overall, this EP is especially experimental, imaginative and unorthodox in the best possible way, impressively overarching many different genres and vibrations with only four songs. Each track is a different experience in itself and has its own character. Wax Machine have a wonderfully refreshing and unique vibe, while still maintaining that nostalgic flare of the 60’s psychedelic scene.

Two years after they met, six musicians coming from radically different universes released an EP under the name of We Insist!, an obvious reference to Freedom now suite, Max Roach’s manifest. Three LPs, hundreds of concerts and ten years later, We Insist! have created a style of their own. It is a testimony of their resilience and their independence. Live performances are their battlefield, where songs are created and perfected in front of the audience. Their influences are numerous: Shellac, Queens of the Stone Age, Primus, At-The-Drive-In, John Zorn or Tool. David Lynch comes to mind as well, mostly because all such references and influences are subtly intertwined and mixed with one another…
