Gentle Giant - Free Hand (1975) Capitol Records/SN-16048 - US Jacksonville Pressing - LP/FLAC In 24bit/96kHz

Gentle Giant - Free Hand
Vinyl | LP Cover (1:1) | FLAC + cue | 24bit/96kHz & 16bit/44kHz | 1300mb & 400mb
Mastered By Gene Thompson & Ken Perry
Label: Capitol Records/SN-160 | Release: 1975 | This Issue: 1980 | Genre: Symphonic-Rock

Essential: A masterpiece of progressive rock music.
Admittedly, many prog rock fans with otherwise excellent taste in music find Gentle Giant rather hard to get into. Their music certainly is challenging, and very varied in flavour. At times it evokes Medieval music, at other times there are a cappella vocals delivered in a quasi-“round” format, in company with passages that veer from moments of delicate beauty to “rocking out.” All of these musical paths, and more, are often explored within the space of a single song. (Of course, that could be part of a generic description of progressive rock.) Gentle Giant have an inimitable style that is difficult to categorize; they must be heard to be understood. Perhaps only those with the most open musical minds will find them at all accessible. Certainly, though major players of the 70s prog scene, “Giant” never fully rose above their cult status to approach the popularity and critical acclaim of contemporaries like Genesis, Yes, ELP, Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull. (Though Gentle Giant don’t really sound like any of those heavyweights, their music bears a somewhat closer resemblance to that of ‘Tull, than any of the others mentioned.)

An amalgamation of swampy blues, jazz and rock - all mixed and recorded in a sparse, bloomy and eerie sort of way. This recording is just so damn fine, so airy and warm. And the musician's aboard on this Dennis Hopper film are a who's who, including Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, Roy Rodgers, Earl Palmer and Tim Drummond. This has long been a highly sought after and collectible album among audiophiles. A true demonstration record.

Kazumi Watanabe has for the past 20 years been one of the top guitarists in fusion, a rock-oriented player whose furious power does not mask a creative imagination. Watanabe studied guitar at Tokyo's Yamaha Music School and he was a recording artist while still a teenager. In 1979, he formed the group Kylyn and, in 1983, he put together the Mobo band. Several of his recordings have been made available by Gramavision and they show that he ranks up with Al DiMeola (when he is electrified) and Scott Henderson among the pacesetters in the idiom. This album features a special duet featuring Japanese pianist Kimiko Tanigawa.
Poco - Live (1976) Epic/PE 32354 – US Pressing - LP/FLAC In 24bit/96kHz - NEW 2018 RIP!

Poco – Live
Vinyl | LP Cover (1:1) | FLAC + cue | 24bit/96kHz & 16bit/44kHz | 800mb & 200mb
Mastered At Capitol Mastering By Wally Traugott
Label: Epic/PE 33336 | Release: 1976 | This Issue: 1978 | Genre: Country-Rock

In 1975, Poco left Epic Records after six years and jumped to ABC Records. Less than a year later, Epic released this 38-minute live album recorded at a series of November 1974 shows. By this time in their history, Richie Furay and Jim Messina were long gone, and steel guitar player Rusty Young and guitarist Paul Cotton were the dominant musical personalities in the group, between them providing all but one of the songs represented here.

"La Cuna" is an album by GRAMMY Award-winning percussionist Ray Barretto, released by CTI label in 1981. Barretto perfectly straddles Afro-Cuban rhythms and grooving jazz fusion. Synths, sax and drums take charge in “Doloroso”, and the jubilant “La Cuna” boasts rumba rhythms that invigorate with experimental piano keys. With “Pastime Paradise”, a rendition of the groundbreaking Stevie Wonder hit, Barretto adds layers of buoyant, festive percussion to the soulful masterpiece; on the closing “Cocinando”, he maneuvers through conga acrobatics and fierce brass melodies with impressive finesse.

Excellent addition to any Progressive-Rock music collection.
A hugely successful album on its release, “How Dare You” spawned two monster hits “I’m Mandy Fly Me” and “Art for Art’s Sake”. I remember I hardly had this off the turntable at the time. Each song is a gem, there is no filler on this brilliant album.
John Abercrombie - Characters (1978) ECM Records/ECM-1-1117 - Original US Pressing - LP/FLAC In 24bit/96kHz

Mastered At Mastersisk
Label: ECM Records/ECM-1-1117 | Released: 1978 | Genre: Jazz-Fusion

Excellent addition to any jazz-fusion music collection
I'm afraid I cannot discuss this album in terms of "meribolant soul melodies" or such, but if you're looking for a peaceful and relaxed solo album from one of the top jazz guitarists, CHARACTERS might be just right for you.
