Bruce Broughton's dynamic action-filled soundtrack for Stephen Hopkin's big-screen treatment of classic Irwin Allen 60's TV series gets deluxe expanded 2-CD release! Famed space family Robinson comes vividly alive courtesy William Hurt as John, Mimi Rogers as Maureen, Heather Graham as Judy, Jack Johnson as Will, Matt LeBlanc as Don, Gary Oldman as Dr. Smith. Involved, darker and more serious story than TV series offered inspired Broughton to create massive, full-blooded symphonic score with one foot in robust action mode, one foot in intense drama mode. Main theme, heard nobly on solo horn at outset of "Main Title", takes off in full throttle fashion for initial launch of Jupiter II.

Bruce Cockburn has issued numerous live recordings, and thus far all of them have been band offerings during the various periods of his 40-plus-year career. While the acoustic element has always been a primary part of his stage persona, fans – and the merely curious – have never had access to an official live document of those proceedings, until now. This double-disc set is a generous offering of 25 songs from all different stages of Cockburn's career, taped during May 2008.

Bruce Barth has a reputation for being one of the more singer-friendly jazz pianists on the East Coast. Some jazz instrumentalists can be very myopic when it comes to singers; they go out of their way to avoid them. But Barth has been good about accompanying singers, which is why everyone from Kevin Mahogany to LaVerne Butler to Dominique Eade has employed him as a sideman. Nonetheless, Barth is primarily an instrumentalist, and this CD is among the releases that finds him in a leadership role instead of an accompanist role.

A rewarding trio session from Bruce Barth, one of the most underrated post-bop pianists. Joined by bassist Ed Howard and drummer Billy Drummond, Barth splits the program evenly between standards and originals, the latter including a lovely pair of dedications: "Song for Alex" and "For Clara." Barth's affinity for Monk comes through on "Evidence" and an intriguing original called "The Way He Wore His Hat," intended as a Monk tribute but based on a motif from "They Can't Take That Away From Me." With "Lazy Bird," "Fascinating Rhythm," and the title track, Barth and company display their flair for rhythmic surprises.
