These aren't exactly Jim Croce's greatest hits, although most of them–"Operator", "Time In a Bottle", "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown," and "I'll Have to Say I Love You In a Song" among others–are here. More specifically, 24 CARAT includes the complete YOU DON'T MESS AROUND WITH JIM album, plus the best cuts from LIFE AND TIMES and I GOT A NAME. Better yet, everything's been beautifully remastered in typical DCC fashion, which means that the lower frequencies seem more burnished than ever. The overall clarity is remarkable, and particularly works to the advantage of Croce's signature sound of two finger-picked acoustic guitars playing harmony lines.
Composer Gabriel Yared crafts a romantic, emotional backdrop with his score for 1999's Message In a Bottle. The beauty and problems of love are expressed through pieces like Sail With Me Tonight and Last Letter, all richly emotional and masterfully performed.
This quintessential collector’s edition includes two of Lightnin’ Hopkins’ finest albums from the early Sixties in their entireties: Mojo Hand, and the equally splendid Blues in My Bottle. The former was originally released in 1962 by Fire Records, while the latter was issued on the Prestige label in 1961, and contained a combination of autobiographical originals and blues standards. These two LPs are widely regarded as landmarks of the early-’60s blues revival. Both solidblues masterpieces have been remastered and packaged together in this very special release, which also includes 2 bonus tracks from the same period.
