Francis E. "Bud" DeTar was a long time resident of Brockport, NY. Born in Albion, NY, in 1922 and died on November 23, 2008. A well known local musician, Bud was a graduate of Rochester's Jefferson High School (1938), SUNY Brockport and the Eastman School of Music. Bud was an Army combat veteran of World War II in Europe. He served on the faculty of the music department at SUNY Brockport. Throughout his life Bud was a performing musician and bandleader in the Rochester area, with The Dixieland Ramblers, The Gates Swingers and other popular groups. The concerts performed by The Bud DeTar Big Band at the SUNY Brockport campus, several seasons in the 1990's, were quite memorable.

Released as a double LP on Chisa/Blue Thumb in 1972, Hugh Masekela's Home Is Where the Music Is marked an accessible but sharp detour from his more pop-oriented jazz records of the '60s. Masekela was chasing a different groove altogether. He was looking to create a very different kind of fusion, one that involved the rhythms and melodies of his native South Africa, and included the more spiritual, soul-driven explorations occurring in American music at the time on labels like Strata East, Tribe, and Black Jazz as well as those laid down by Gato Barbieri on Bob Thiele's Flying Dutchman imprint. The South African and American quintet he assembled for the date is smoking. It includes the mighty saxophonist Dudu Pakwana and drummer Makaya Ntshoko, both South African exiles; they were paired with American pianist Larry Willis and bassist Eddie Gomez, creating a wonderfully balanced, groove-oriented ensemble.

The Big Fun Trio (Elvin on guitar and vocals, Willy Jordan on cajon and vocals, and Bob Welsh on guitar and piano) forges a new blues and R&B sensibility, colored by the distinctive, stripped-down instrumentation and shot through with Elvin’s exuberant, down home vibe. There are seven Bishop originals here (including a remake of the title track from his Ace In The Hole release), plus Lightnin’ Hopkin’s Honey Babe, Fats Domino’s Let The Four Winds Blow, Sunnyland Slim’s It’s You, Baby, and Bobby Womack’s It’s All Over Now. Charlie Musselwhite, Rick Estrin and Kim Wilson guest.

John Lee Hooker's greatness lies in his ability to perform the same songs the same way yet somehow sound different and memorable in the process. He operates at maximum efficiency in minimal surroundings with little production or assistance. That was the case on a 1969 session for Black and Blue; it was just Hooker and his guitar moaning, wailing, and narrating on 10 tracks which included familiar ditties "Boogie Chillen," "Love Affair," "Big Boss Lady," and "Cold Chills." Evidence has now not only reissued these 10 but has added another six bonus cuts, bringing the CD total to 16. If you have ever heard any Hooker, you will not be surprised or stunned by these renditions; you will simply enjoy hearing him rework them one more time, finding a new word, phrase, line, or riff to inject.

Features 24 bit remastering and comes with a mini-description. The 1960's represented a very interesting time for musicians of all genres; three particular reasons began a trend for future generations of musical artists. The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones were the 3 reasons which permanently altered the musical landscape and basically made it impossible for stars of the past to remain economically viable in the present. The only 2 exceptions to the rule of course were Mel Tormé and Frank Sinatra.
