The celebrated French philosopher's most essential text, Being and Nothingness takes a revolutionary look at ontology, ethics, and personal freedom
In Being and Nothingness, Jean-Paul Sartre closely examines ontology (the study of the nature of being) and discusses empirical issues that he finds scientific fields struggle to explain. Above all, he delves into the idea of "freedom over choice", which states that humans have complete and total responsibility over their actions.

Mad Dog: William Cyril Moxley and the Moorebank Killings by Peter Corris
English | January 1st, 2012 | ISBN: 1742232868 | 256 Pages | EPUB | 4.22 MB

William Cyril Moxley was hanged at Sydney's Long Bay Gaol in 1932 – the first execution in New South Wales for eight years. His crime was the brutal rape and murder of 21-year-old Dorothy Ruth Denzel and the vicious beating and killing of her boyfriend, Frank Barnby Wilkinson. How did this World War I army deserter, small-time thief, conman and police informer come to be the infamous murderer 'Mad Dog' Moxley? Was it simply a robbery gone wrong? Did his blackouts and migraines stem from a head injury as he claimed, or was he the monstrous sociopath described by the prosecution lawyers and the tabloids? Why did he leave such an obvious trail? Would he be found guilty today?

How did nobody think to go here before? With a glut of fine Joni Mitchell tributes on the market and a couple of engrossing Laura Nyro nods out there, how is it that no creative spirits in the jazz or cabaret camps thought to make the full-on jump to Janis Ian before now? Hearing Sarah Partridge dig into Ian's body of work makes this concept seem like a no-brainer an incredibly natural fit, in fact but that may very well have more to do with Partridge's vision and interpretive brilliance than it does with the material penned by the honoree.
