Tony Monaco has moved the Hammond B3 organ beyond its common niche as a vehicle for hit R&B, blues, and soul. The organ in his hands has as much of a modern sound to it as others on the scene, with the possible exception of Joey DeFrancesco, as evidenced by such modern jazz classics as "Take the Coltrane" and "Footprints" on the play list. Listen to the complex chordal displays on "Mellow Mood," which offers a highly listenable combination of traditional and new organ styles…

A showcase for Mel Tormé at his best, recorded live in front of an audience, the album solidified the young singer's standing in the jazz world. Released in 1957, this session was recorded at the Crescendo in Los Angeles, arranged by Tormé's longtime collaborator, pianist/arranger Marty Paich. These familiar standards are taken to another level on this inspired concert album that sees Tormé backed by a small combo.

Like a majority of up-and-coming British bands of the 1960s, the Zombies made nearly two dozen BBC Light and Radio 1 transmissions between the fall of 1964 and the spring of 1968. The 29 cuts hail from a variety of those programs. In many cases their alternate persona as a consummate and immensely soulful cover combo is likewise illuminated…
