Let Me Entertain You is the eighteenth studio album by Amanda Lear, released in May 2016. This new album was conceived as a musical, browsing through new songs and covers her life and personality. What is immediately striking, is the large variation in the songs and the music types on this brand new album. Amanda Lear sings cabaret (Let Me Entertain You), disco (Macho Man), chanson (La Rumeur), Italian pop (Prima Del Tuo Cuore), dance (The Best Is Yet To Come), evergreens (Smile)… There are new tracks (The Actress, Catwalk), there are cover versions of famous songs (Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, For Me Formidable) and there are modern remakes of old Lear hits (Follow Me, Fashion Pack).

Amanda Lear first surfaced in the early '70s as a fetishistically clothed album-cover model for Roxy Music. She was said to be a transsexual but, as she told Interview magazine, that was just a ruse dreamed up by her sponsor, David Bowie, to draw attention. Her importance to disco fans, however, began in 1977, when she recorded I Am a Photograph in Germany with production help from Tony Monn…

Lear, previously known as a Roxy Music album cover model and a protégé of Salvador Dali, appears here as a cabaret countess. She enunciates sexually naughty suggestions in a smoke-and-velvet rasp. Her best subversions hit a dancer's most salacious fantasies dead on. Most of these songs support their studied lewdness with absurdly different music, creating tangible friction (e.g., "Alligator" – funk bottom, frothy violins on top) that makes Lear's tape-loop voice feel even naughtier. All of Lear's tempos assault disco norms, either as sleaze or ultra-fast high-energy. An album not to be missed…

This album is so cool and Amanda Lear is always involved in great projects, be it music, theatre, art, fashion, movies, tv, fiction. She and Dolly Parton are way beyond divadom, they both have given so much to this planet that, frankly, is kinda a strange one…

Amanda Lear has produced some of the most hilarious disco tracks of the last 20 years, and this is a real return to form. The music is typical Euro-cheese, and La Lear delivers the vocals in such a world-weary tone that it sounds, sometimes, as if she couldn't even be bothered to turn up at the studio and just phoned her performance in from an airport waiting loung. Don't let this put you off! It's weirdly effective. Some of the songs are low-camp gay disco, lyrics about go-go boys & muscle queens; others strive for seriousness. There's even a love song to Amanda's mentor, Salvador Dali. All this and a marvellous self-portrait on the cover. Highly recommended.
