Legendary singer-songwriter Albert Hammond will release the 14-track In Symphony, a collection of his best-known tracks - plus a couple of surprises - re-recorded over five days at Abbey Road Studio. With over 30 chart-topping hits and sales of 360 million records for himself as well as artists such as Leo Sayer, Diana Ross, The Hollies, Whitney Houston and Starship, it would be tempting for Albert to hang up the guitar and take it easy. But he's still writing and gigging, and after one especially energetic televised live solo show in Berlin last year, label execs wanted to hear more from the London-born, Gibraltar-raised performer. "This is a record that's not supposed to happen," he laughs, "The BMG people came to see me after the show and said, 'We want to do something. ' I said 'Well, I don't, unless I do my hits symphonically… '"

Albert Hammond is one of the more successful pop/rock songwriters to come out of England during the 1960s and 1970s, and has also enjoyed a long career as a recording artist, his work popular in two languages on three continents across four decades. Hammond was born in London in 1944 – his family actually came from the British colony on Gibraltar, but wartime considerations caused his mother to be evacuated to London, where she gave birth. He spent his childhood and youth on Gibraltar, where he became fluent in both English and Spanish – that bilingual ability would serve him well in his later career…

When I Need You should have been a monster album for Albert Hammond. His label at the time, Epic, had just scored with Engelbert Humperdinck's After the Lovin' while Leo Sayer hit number one on both Top 40 and AC charts with Hammond's title track from this disc. Add to all the attention and label savvy the fact that this is an exceptional recording by a songwriter of note, and the fact that it failed to generate any serious renown on its own is a real mystery…

Albert Hammond has been writing hit songs for over fifty years. This is not to just to say that it has been fifty years since his first hit. This is to say that there has not been a single decade in which Albert has not written multiple hits songs since he scored his first hit with “Little Arrows” at the age of 24. His songs have been responsible for the sale of over 360 million records worldwide including over 30 chart-topping hits. Many of his most beloved songs, like “The Air That I Breathe” and “When I Need You,” have become hits multiple times with various artists, decade after decade. Albert achieved early success as an artist with his song “It Never Rains in Southern California,” and he has since built a multi-faceted career as an artist, songwriter and producer in both English-speaking and Latin markets…

It Never Rains in Southern California. Though it rains a lot here, I never forgot that song. Neither will some of you older folks like me I guess. Plus a few other gems like "If You Gotta Break Another Heart" and "The Air That I Breathe".

For the first time ever on CD, brings together two landmark albums by veteran blues master JOHN HAMMOND - Source Point (1971) and I'm Satisfied (1972). Originally recorded for Columbia, these two albums are the missing links in a career charted by a series of popular recordings for Vanguard and Atlantic. Hammond began his career on the New York coffeehouse scene at the beginning of the first blues renaissance of the early '60s, and these albums confirm his status as one of the finest interpreters of Chicago blues. These recordings show Hammond as a more than capable band leader playing electric as well as acoustic guitar on some of the best Chicago style electric blues ever recorded.

The new Stax Classics series celebrates the iconic label's greatest stars, offering new liner notes, label discographies and 12 choice cuts from the artists' Stax catalog. This collection highlights one of the most influential bluesmen in history, Albert King, who single-handedly ushered blues into the modern era by combining his direct, urgent Mississippi blues style with contemporary soul rhythms, continually redefining the state of the genre. During his nine years on the label, the prolific artist released dozens of innovative hits and became one of the few blues artists to break through to the young, white rock crowd, influencing many of the biggest rock stars of the 60s and 70s, including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. This album includes such classics as 'Crosscut Saw,' 'Born Under a Bad Sign,' and 'Breaking Up Somebody's Home.'
