Lark Quartet, Gary Graffman (piano left hand), Blair McMillen (piano), Todd Palmer (clarinet)

American composer Jennifer Higdon (b. 1962) is known mostly for orchestral works that have bridged the divide between popular and academic composition: they are lyrical, accessible, and tonal, but they are quite economically constructed, and they refer themselves to the rigor of the grand tradition in a way that has appealed to prize boards including that of the Pulitzer. Colorful and idiomatic orchestration is her calling card, but chamber groups are finding that her talents also transferred well to that medium. The string quartet An Exaltation of Larks is probably her most popular chamber work. Like much of Higdon's music it builds into exotic textural realms from fairly straightforward beginnings, and it's not an easy work for the players. The Lark Quartet, appropriately enough, has made a specialty of this work and are both in command of its technical challenges and able to put across the essential lyricism that may bring Vaughan Williams to mind.

Songs of Innocence: The Story of British Childhood
Language: English | EPUB / MOBI | ISBN-10: 1843548968 | 2012 | 288 pages | 0.4 MB / 0.6 MB

As recently as 100 years ago British children existed in ways now unthinkable; boys as young as eight worked grueling hours in unlit factories; girls were sold into sexual slavery with dolls still in their grasp; and boys at schools like Rugby and Harrow were brutally trained for their future at the helm of Britain's vast red empire. This book charts the transformation of childhood in the UK from early Victorian disagreements about childrearing to the Scouts' very direct involvement in World War I. Poignant first-hand accounts of poverty and deprivation as well as innocent pleasures carry the reader through a Dickensian landscape of urchins and Fauntleroys, the cosseted lives of Edwardian children to the self-sufficient charges of Baden-Powell.

Advancing to higher levels of ritual magic with purpose and power requires an exaltation of consciousness-a spiritual transformation that can serve as an antitode to the seeming banality of modern life. Based on Kabbalistic techniques, the teachings of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and an Hermetic tradition spanning nearly two thousand years, this innovative new work introduces the history of the Golden Dawn and its mythology, the Tree of Life, Deities, demons, rules for practicing magic, and components of effective ritual. A comprehensive course of self-initiation using Israel Regardie's seminal Golden Dawn as a key reference point, Kabbalah, Magic and the Great Work of Self-Transformation guides you through the levels of the Golden Dawn system of ritual magic. Each grade in this system corresponds with a sphere in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and includes daily rituals, required reading, written assignments, projects, and additional exercises.
Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL

Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL (The International Series in Engineering and Computer Science) by Tim Piessens, Michiel Steyaert
Publisher: Springer; 1 edition (March 31, 2004) | ISBN-10: 1402077270 | PDF | 2 Mb | 235 pages

Design and Analysis of High Efficiency Line Drivers for xDSL covers the most important building block of an xDSL (ADSL, VDSL, …) system: the line driver. Traditional Class AB line drivers consume more than 70% of the total power budget of state-of-the-art ADSL modems. This book describes the main difficulties in designing line drivers for xDSL. The most important specifications are elaborated staring from the main properties of the channel and the signal properties. The traditional (class AB), state-of-the-art (class G) and future technologies (class K) are discussed.
