This pioneering volume uses modern statistical and simulation techniques to explain the process of wealth transmission and the persistent problem of the unequal distribution of wealth. These papers reflect a shift from the traditional cross-sectional measurement to an intertemporal focus by attempting to model mathematically the actual process by which wealth is acquired and transmitted.

Michael Crétu's attempt at fusing everything from easy listening sex music and hip-hop rhythms to centuries-old Gregorian chants couldn't have been more designed to tweak the nose of high art, a joyously crass stab straight at a mainstream, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars. The result is something that shouldn't exist, but in its own way results in as much of a cultural scramble and explosion as anything Public Enemy were doing around the same time, crossing over the Euro-disco and new age spheres with style…

Previously available on vinyl from Gatemouth records, this reissue has an alternate take of the CD's centerpiece, a quintet version of "Cumbia and Jazz Fusion" which Charles Mingus originally recorded for a film score with a 15-piece band. The stripped-down version holds its own charm, wit and power, perhaps more than the Mingus take because of the lack of density and the space given for individuals to shine, those being drummer Richmond, trumpeter Jack Walrath, saxophonist Ricky Ford, pianist Bob Neloms and bassist Cameron Brown.

The most ambitious comics event of 2016 brings war to the 41st century - with Rai leading the charge! One hundred years from today, Father - the benevolent artificial intelligence that governs the island nation of Japan - will gain sentience. To defend its borders, Father will take drastic action by launching Japan into space…where its people will thrive in isolation, away from the overpopulated and resource-deprived planet below. Over the centuries, as New Japan orbits our increasingly unstable world, it will become a model society - one built on peace, prosperity… and Father's control. A thousand years from today, Father will create the first Rai, founding a lineage of technologically enhanced heroes engineered to defend New Japan and sworn to protect it from all enemies. For hundreds of years into the future, the Rai will single-handedly enforce New Japan's justice well…and serve Father without question. Now, at the dawn of 4001 A.D., the latest Rai is about to inherit the dark truth behind the origin of his kind…and discover the sinister secret at the heart of Father's existence. For New Japan to live, Earth must die…and as Rai challenges his former master for the first time in more than a millennium, the lone guardian of New Japan will be cast out of his own Father's kingdom… Exiled from the only realm he's ever known, Rai now walks the ravaged world of 4001 A.D. in search of forgotten heroes like himself… on a mission to collect the last surviving legends of a broken planet…and to forge a rebellion with the power to bring the most advanced civilization in history crashing back down to Earth. New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (DIVINITY II) and superstar artist Clayton Crain (X-Force) bring their startling vision of the year 4001 A.D. to new heights…with the fate of New Japan floating in the balance! Collecting 4001 A.D. #1-4.

Erotic Colour Prints of the Ming Period: With an Essay on Chinese Sex Life from the Han to the Ching Dynasty, B.C. 206-A.D. 1644 (Sinica Leidensia, V. 62) by Robert Hans Van Gulik
English | Oct. 2003 | ISBN: 9004136649 | 329 Pages | PDF | 6 MB

The publication in 1951 of Robert Hans van Gulik’s Erotic Colour Prints of the Ming Period created a stir in the Chinese art community. It was privately published in only fifty copies, which were sent as gifts to selected libraries and museums worldwide. (A list of those outside the Far East is Appendix II to the same author’s Sexual Life in Ancient China.) The copies were accompanied by a letter advising that in order to keep away “sensation-seekers and peeping Toms,” the books were to be made accessible only to “a limited number of serious scholars in the field, for purposes of research.”
