Although 1975's „A Song For You“ was the last truly great Temptations album, it's a killer, and it should come as a revelation to anyone who thinks the band didn't do anything worthwhile after Dennis Edwards took over lead vocals following the departures of David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. Edwards's gruffer voice does take a bit of getting used to for those accustomed to Ruffin and Kendricks's smooth sounds, but he's a fiery, impassioned lead singer. His delivery of the Leon Russell-written title track shreds not only the better-known Carpenters version, but also the Donny Hathaway rendition that many feel is definitive. The other highlight is the scorching "Shakey Ground," a cataclysmic funk powerhouse co-written by Funkadelic guitar legend Eddie Hazel, who delivers some searing solos on the track. Longtime Temptations fans consider this one of the group's finest albums, up there with „Cloud Nine“ and „In A Mellow Mood“.

Label: Sire/SRK 6049 | Released: 1978 | Genre: Symphonic-Rock

Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection
Yes, another outstanding Renaissance album, AMONG THEIR BEST ONES! On this one, the omnipresent & OUTSTANDING classical arrangements are really in the foreground, really participating to the melody! Clearly, Renaissance is a band that is better when having an accompanying orchestra! Again, the style is still strongly baroque symphonic. Just hear this combination of relatively modern keyboards and strings+horn arrangements: SUBLIME! Annie’s lead vocals are very loud, pure and never bland.

2009 digitally remastered two-fer from the Jazz Fusion great featuring the 1979 album A Song For The Children joined by the classic Exotic Mysteries album which features 'Space Princess', a Lonnie Liston Smith masterpiece. A Song For The Children features seven Jazz fusion masterpieces including the title track which can only be described as more Disco than Jazz but it really worked and is now one of Lonnie's standards along with 'Expansions' and 'Space Princess'. The album Exotic Mysteries, as Lonnie points out on the sleeve notes, was one of his personal favorites to record and an album where he discovered a young 16 year old Marcus Miller, who wrote several songs for the album, and Lonnie knew he would be a star.
Carpenters – A Song For You (1972) A&M Records/SP 3511 – Original US Pressing - LP/FLAC In 24bit/96kHz

Label: A&M Records/SP 3511 | Released: 1972 | Genre: Country-Pop

The duo’s best album, and the place to start beyond the hits compilations. Up to the release of A Song for You, the Carpenters’ success had seemed an awesome if somewhat fluky phenomenon, built on prodigious talent, some beautifully crafted pop sensibilities, and a very fortunate choice of singles — their albums Close to You and Carpenters, though they were top-sellers, both seemed just a bit thrown together.

Donny Hathaway was one of the brightest new voices in soul music at the dawn of the '70s, possessed of a smooth, gospel-inflected romantic croon that was also at home on fiery protest material. Hathaway achieved his greatest commercial success as Roberta Flack's duet partner of choice, but sadly he's equally remembered for the tragic circumstances of his death an apparent suicide at age 33.

The great Kenny Rankin makes a subtle shift in stylistic focus on this label debut, titled A Song for You. The recording shows just how rewarding the marriage of songs from the Great American Songbook with the smooth jazz style can be when played by a talent of Rankin's stature. His singing explores new musical trails on such great compositions as Harold Arlen's "When the Sun Comes Out," the Lorenz Hart favorite "She Was Too Good to Me," and "Love Walked In" by George & Ira Gershwin. Rankin also reprises his vocal version of "'Round Midnight," the Thelonious Monk standard previously released on his 2001 CD Haven't We Met?. This vocal version is performed with harmonically viable guitar strumming, with Rankin making it a much easier task than one who may be trying to de-emphasize the difficult piano stylings associated with Monk
