At 92, vibraphonist Terry Gibbs proves he's still jamming, demonstrating the sheer joy of performing he's displayed over his incredible eight decade career. On stage he behaves like a exuberant fan of his own band, cheering his accompanists on, punctuating arrangements and solos with non-verbal interjections. That same spirit is in abundance on 92 Years Young, a collection of songs recorded live in Gibbs' living room, each track done in a single take.

This reissue is unrelated to another V.S.O.P. set simply titled A Jazz Band Ball. Terry Gibbs on vibes and marimba matches wits and creativity with Victor Feldman and Larry Bunker, both of whom double on vibes and xylophone. Assisted by pianist Lou Levy, bassist Max Bennett and drummer Mel Lewis, the intriguing frontline essentially plays bop, but with a great deal of color. The interaction between the vibraphonists, who are all featured and occasionally trade off, is the main reason to acquire this very interesting set.

Christopher Hogwood was one of the first pioneers to introduce historically informed performances in England in the 70', following Nikolaus Harnoncourt's revolution that took place in the late 50'. With the Academy of Ancient Music, he published hundreds of fine recordings from different composers, with a special focus on Vivaldi. Here he presents the famous Four Seasons. I find Hogwood's lecture of the 4 Seasons perfect.
