Dan Cruickshank follows in the footsteps of John Stow and John Strype, two of London's greatest chroniclers, to explore one of the most dramatic centuries in the history of London. The 17th century saw London plunged into a series of devastating disasters. The Civil War, a murderous plague and the destruction that was the great fire should have seen the small medieval city all but destroyed.

This 2-CD set is effectively a reissue of the previously-available Stockholm To Philadelphia 2-CD set. Disc 1 is a powerful set recorded in February 1971 in Stockholm, and is a good representation of Island-era MTH live, despite it being a somewhat subdued audience.
Disc 2 is the famous performance at the Tower Theatre, Philadelphia PA in November 1972. David Bowie introduced the show, and joined the band onstage for All The Young Dudes.
The package comes with new sleeve notes by Keith Smith of the Mott The Hoople Appreciation Society. Like Stockholm To Philadelphia, this is an essential purchase and if you can't get one they you should get the other. Of course, getting both would probably appeal only to the fanatical completist.

At the earlier show, touring in the aftermath of the low-key Wildlife album, Mott are facing up to the fact that they're doomed to remain a second-division attraction, adored by the faithful but unknown to the rest of the universe…
