For many metal fans out there, Rob Rock is a man that needs no introduction. He has performed for numerous metal acts dating back to the mid 1980's. Actually, the list is quite long: M.A.R.S., Angelica, Driver, Joshua, Axel Rudi Pell, Impellitteri, Warrior, and Avantasia. Eyes of Eternity is another quality album to add to Rob's discography. This is Rob's second solo album, the follow up to the 2000 release Rage of Creation. Eyes of Eternity sees Rob Rock kicking up the intensity of the music, while not forgetting his melodic roots.

Eddie Higgins has been a solid bop pianist for decades, though he seems most appreciated by the folks who run the Japanese label Venus, for whom he has recorded frequently in his golden years. Joined by two-thirds of Phil Woods' longtime rhythm section (Steve Gilmore and Bill Goodwin), along with special guest Scott Hamilton on tenor sax, Higgins explores a dozen ballads, most of which have been favorites of jazz musicians longer than the pianist has been playing professionally…

As had been amply proved by their dismally recorded studio albums, Y&T's songs were simply made to be heard in a live setting. Arriving at the tail end of the band's association with A&M Records, Open Fire is hardly exceptional by live-album standards, but the difference between these performances and their studio counterparts is so immense that one has to wonder if the performances are even by the same band…

If the glacial dynamics of previous metal and hardcore abstractions Celestial and Oceanic didn't prove that Isis was a heavy band in every sense, then Panopticon should do the trick. The title comes from 18th century philosopher Jeremy Bentham's prison design, which was later referenced by Michael Foucault in the 20th century. The idea is that a centrally placed guard or watcher can keep track of a large number of prisoners, and it excited Bentham and concerned Foucault. Heavy stuff for a metal band, huh? Both are quoted in the liner notes, bookended by aerial industrial photos laying out society's open sprawl…

Simon Cowell combined the girls into a quintet and formed Fifth Harmony.
