German trombonist Albert Mangelsdorff was a major innovator who has had an influence on jazz instrumentalists worldwide. His use of multiphonics, which utilizes vocalizing into the horn to produce chords and overtone effects, was ground-breaking. This 1973 album presented his newest group, with German saxophone great Heinz Sauer the one remaining member from Albert’s legendary 1960’s quartet. Saxophonist Gerd Dudek, lauded for his play with the likes of Manfred Schoof, Lester Bowie, and Joachim Kuhn, joins the front line. Buschi Niedergall was one of the most sought-after bassists on the avant-garde scene, and drummer Peter Giger is known best for his renowned group Family of Percussion.

James Travis Reeves was an American country and popular music singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville sound (a mixture of older country-style music with elements of popular music). He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame. Known as "Gentleman Jim", his songs continued to chart for years after his death. Reeves died in 1964 in the crash of his private airplane. This posthumous RCA's album peaked at #1 at the U.S. Country charts.

Joe Simon established himself as a poignant, folksy, yet urgent vocalist with his debut album on the Sound Stage label. He was then working with the great disc jockey John "R" Richbourg, who helped him find the right blend of soulful ardor and countrified narrative. While neither "Teenager's Prayer" nor "Nine Pound Steel" hit the charts, they laid the groundwork for Simon's monster hits that followed two years later. This album has long been deleted; look for it on collector's auction lists or in used record stores.

Church of the Cosmic Skull are a seven piece from Nottingham about to release their debut album Is Satan Real? on Bilocation Records. On paper, it doesn’t look very promising. The band describe themselves as an actual church, a religious movement who ‘seek to free mankind from their material possessions and unify all living beings into a singular cosmic whole…’. You’d be forgiven for thinking this all sounds gimmicky and not exactly original; we’ve had bands in robes and such before, trying to reel us in with their cult-ish vibes and the promise of faux spiritual reveries, possibly followed by orgies and spiked punch…
