Hip-O's Gold: '80s Metal provides two full discs of spandex anthems than run the gamut from brooding progressive rock (Queensrÿche's "Eyes of a Stranger") to sleazy hair metal (Bulletboys' "Smooth Up in Ya"). The compilation covers an awful lot of ground (Kingdom Come, Dangerous Toys, Bang Tango), but there are enough Headbanger's Ball classics here, like Accept's "Balls to the Wall", Winger's "Seventeen", Warrant's "Cherry Pie", and most importantly Autograph's "Turn Up the Radio", to satisfy the masses.

Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits Of The '80s was a new wave compilation released by Rhino honoring the music of the 1980's, and this was the sampler disc for the series, released in 1994. Of interest is the version of A Flock Of Seagulls' "I Ran (So Far Away)", which has the ending heard in the video and is different from that in the actual compilation CD series.

Worshiped by Tea Party politicians but loathed by sane economists, gold has influenced American monetary policy and has exerted an irrational influence on the national psyche for centuries. It is an existential quest that extends to today, as millions of investors remain entranced by the metal and as right-wing presidential candidates present it as the antidote to our economic woes.
