In this class we'll learn how to create a character and bring it to life. First we'll model it using the tools and primitives. After rigging the pieces into a workable "puppet" we'll learn how to use the timeline and create an animation. You'll be able to do this class in C4D or C4D Lite (included with After Effects CC or later). When you're finished, you'll be able to use your robot in my brother Jake's tutorial.

Using CINEMA 4D's sculpting tools, you can create hard surface models without the constraints imposed by traditional polygon and NURBS modeling techniques. Then you can retopologize your sculpt to produce a lighter model more suitable for complex scenes and animation. Your sculpted model becomes, in essence, a frame around which you can build a well-constructed polygon model. In this course, modeling expert Adam Trachtenberg shows viewers how to use the sculpting tools in C4D to create a hard surface model, retopologize the sculpted model, return to sculpting mode to add fine details, and generate texture maps that approximate the illusion of detail—without the weight of polygons.

The primitive and spline modeling tools are universal across all levels of CINEMA 4D (including C4D Lite) and they're some of the best ways to model mechanical objects and other complex objects made of simpler parts. In this course, Donovan Keith shows you how to take a reference photograph and create a model from its shapes and pieces.

With the addition of sculpting tools to CINEMA 4D studio, it's become possible to complete creature projects without leaving the software. In this CINEMA 4D sculpting tutorial we will discuss the modeling of a base mesh in CINEMA 4D, using a variety of modeling tools.
Throughout the tutorial we will talk about model preparation and UV layout in anticipation of texture baking and painting. Once the base is prepared, we will go through the process of adding high resolution detail using the sculpting tools in CINEMA 4D. Once our creature model is sculpted, we will talk about baking that detail out into Normal, Displacement, and Ambient Occlusion maps. Then we will use BodyPaint to create textures for the creature.

In this CINEMA 4D tutorial we will go through the process of building a motorcycle. We will start by setting up reference images for the bike and then use some spline-based tools and techniques to begin building up the molded fairing pieces. We’ll then use CINEMA 4D’s unique, hierarchy based workflow to construct the different elements of the motorcycle. We’ll use box modeling techniques to build up parts like the tank and other body elements. Combining splines will allow us to build complex hard surface shapes like the brake discs. All along the way we’ll talk about smoothing techniques and using symmetry to speed up our workflow. By the end, you’ll have a motorcycle model and knowledge you can apply to your own custom bike or model.
