One of the most groundbreaking rock bands of the '90s, Jane's Addiction, celebrates the 25th anniversary of their seminal album Ritual de Lo Habitual with a blockbuster live performance of the album in it's entirety plus additional favorites as encores. Recorded at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater, this show reunites founding members Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Stephen Perkins as well as bassist Chris Chaney. Jane's Addiction's Ritual de lo Habitual has proved to be a timeless album that feels just as vital today. "Twenty-five years - what a beautiful milestone for both Ritual de Lo Habitual and Lollapalooza," said Perry Farrell in announcing the new release. "Both were great achievements in our lives that also helped change the course of music history, we really sought to come up with a special show for this tour so that the fans could celebrate it with us."

Having made an enormous contribution to the establishment of the Nashville Sound and the modernisation of country music, Anita Kerr felt the need to expand her artistic horizons and in 1965, made the move from Nashville to Hollywood. She wanted to work with different people, to get her own songs recorded, to play jazz, to conduct an orchestra, to take on more ambitious and more varied projects musically, and to form a vocal group which, rather than be confined to studio sessions, might also appear in club and concert settings. Her arrival on the West Coast was well timed. She had just fought off The Beatles to win a Grammy for the album We Dig Mancini and she was quickly able to assemble a stellar Anita Kerr Singers (B.J Baker: alto, Gene Merlino: tenor; Bob Tebow: bass, with Anita herself as soprano and soloist) and secure a contract more tailored to her needs with Warner Brothers. The result over the next two years, were these five superbly fashioned albums.

Five Men in a Hut is basically the final roundup for Gomez's Hut/Virgin years, but it's a positive boon for fans, especially in the U.S. In the U.K., each Gomez album had at least a few associated singles, but they never got the same treatment stateside. Since each album had a certain specific "sound" to it, one can see how some of these songs wouldn't have fit with the album they were recorded with, but the B-sides were hardly throwaways. In fact, the B-sides were often excellent and allowed the band to try different things and stretch out a bit. Abandoned Shopping Trolley Hotline gathered a few of these tracks, but more than half of Five Men in a Hut is comprised of B-sides (and two previously unreleased tunes) so ultimately all the A's and B's of many of these singles are now readily available.

A treasure trove of previously unreleased material, this brings together 25 new tracks, all recorded between 1953 and 1957. Only two songs, "Heaven on My Mind" and "I'm Going Through," were ever released in any form, but the quality of the material is certainly as high as any of their early sides. Here's one of gospel's greatest groups, singing their hearts out in their absolute prime.

U.S. marketers have been looking for a crossover blockbuster to match Britain's parade of chart-topping teens, and they may just have found one in this quintet of well-scrubbed Utah siblings (three girls, two boys) who won separate scholarships to the Juilliard School in New York. No Boundaries is their second album, and it closely follows the pattern of their highly successful debut, minus the inclusion of a video disc. The best news is that the playing here is musically solid and the repertoire even a bit challenging – there are no five-piano arrangements of "My Heart Will Go On," but there is Lutoslawski (the Variations on a Theme of Paganini) and Ginastera (the Danzas Argentinas, Op. 2, with Ryan Brown making you believe that more than one piano is sounding).

Chicago-born saxophonist Steve Coleman has been a controversial figure since the emergence of the multi-idiomatic, free-funk M-Base movement he inspired in America in the late 1980s. Coleman's music through the past decade has seemed to suggest the steady maturing of a new Sun Ra, Anthony Braxton or George Russell for contemporary jazz - yet his struggle with form has also sidelined his reputation into an enthusiasts' tributary.
