THE ULTIMATE BEE GEES is a double-disc career retrospective featuring the group's many hits and chart-topping singles, performances of a selection of hit songs they wrote for others, and liner notes by Tim Rice. Tim Rice's liner notes accompanying THE ULTIMATE BEE GEES puts the group's extravagant popularity into perspective. 'Within this package is a collection of performances and songs that very few practitioners of popular music of the past could match for quality, originality, and emotion. It's the singing, the harmonies, the arrangements, the sound, the rivalry, the love, the intelligence, the determination, but above all it's the songs.'
SPV launched their series of archival Ike & Tina Turner collections with this double-disc set, which curiously enough is the least interesting installment in the program so far. The Archive Series, Vols. 1 & 2: Hits and Classics is devoted to songs already familiar to casual listeners, but the only real-deal Ike & Tina hits included on this set are "It's Gonna Work Out Fine," "Nutbush City Limits," "Proud Mary," and "River Deep, Mountain High" (the latter two each appearing twice), while nearly everything else is a cover of a tune associated with another artist.
The Best of Leonard Cohen is a greatest hits album by Leonard Cohen, released in 1975. In some countries from Europe, it was released under the title Greatest Hits. In July 2009, this compilation was re-released in England under the title Greatest Hits with updated artwork and a revised track listing. Four tracks from the original 1975 Version ("Lady Midnight", "The Partisan", "Last Year's Man" & "Take This Longing") were removed and nine tracks released after 1975 ("Everybody Knows", "Waiting For The Miracle", "A Thousand Kisses Deep", "The Future", "Closing Time", "Dance Me To The End Of Love", "First We Take Manhattan", "I'm Your Man" and "Hallelujah") were added.
"Greatest Hits" comprises twenty selections from his best concert DVD's. Coming off like a video collection, it is a stunning summation of his work. "Nun's Chorus," Mozart's "Adagio from Violin Concerto #3," "Air on a G String," and "Torselli Serenade" are simply exquisite. On the other hand "You Are My Heart's Delight," "Vienna, the City of My Dreams," and "O Fortuna" showcase Rieu and his orchestra doing their work with the grandeur of the concert halls in which they play. "The Gadfly" (from 'Romantic Moments') goes to show how much we can take those details (like Rieu's 1667 Stradivarius violin) for granted.
This is vol. 3 in a series of DVD archive releases aimed to provide Deep Purple fans with DVDs rounding up as much rare footage from the 1968-1976 era as possible. The vol. 3 Archive DVDs contains a large collection of individual performances from TV around Europe, as well as rounding up some of the longer video segments known to exist plus an introduction to the band's history.
Essentially an update of the multi-million selling 1995 'Greatest Hits' package, this 2009 Tour Edition adds four tracks recorded since the original release. Serving as the perfect introduction to one of America's finest singer/songwriters, this compilation focuses on Springsteen's work with The E-Street Band and features such well known hits as 'Born To Run', 'Dancing In The Dark' and 'Born In The USA'.
