The Rolling Stones’ “Tour Of The Americas ‘75” was the band’s first tour with new guitarist Ronnie Wood. Even before the dates started there were dramatic scenes in New York City at the official tour announcement when the band unexpectedly turned up on a flatbed truck to play “Brown Sugar”. After a couple of low key warm-up shows in Louisiana the tour took in 44 dates between the 3rd June and the 8th August 1975. They settled into the L.A. Forum for a five night stint from July 9th to 13th and this concert film features the show from July 12th. The footage has now been carefully restored and the sound has been newly mixed by Bob Clearmountain for this first official release of the show.

Recorded in 1981, this DVD live set presents Journey at the peak of its powers, on tour in support of the highly successful ESCAPE album (and novelty video game… remember?). The arena-rock band is clearly at home in the cavernous Houston venue, offering up many of the aforementioned record's songs, including the energetic title track, the prom classic "Open Arms," and the anthemic "Don't Stop Believin'." Vocalist Steve Perry belts out the hits in his dramatic signature style and plays the role of hard-rock frontman to perfection, and keyboardist Jonathan Cain, drummer Steve Smith, and guitarist Neal Schon each take lengthy solos, with Schon's moment in the spotlight truly sending fans into a frenzy.

The subject of many poor quality bootlegs, this concert - one of only a handful undertaken by Fripp & Eno - is routinely described as ‘legendary’. Hearing the tapes in fully restored audio quality, it's easy to understand why it attracts such reverence now and perhaps, why the shows attracted such hostility then. No Roxy Music hits, No King Crimson riffs, just a duo sitting in near darkness with a reel to reel tape recorder, improvising over the pre-recorded loops with a filmed background projection. Replace the reel to reel machine with a couple of laptops/iPads/sequencers and the core of much current live performance from electronica to hip-hop was there some thirty years in advance. At the time, audiences responded to such a glimpse of the future with booing, walkouts and general confusion.
