From the 70's right through to the 90's Genesis was one of the most consistently successful Rock acts on the scene. They enjoyed a longevity exceeded only by the likes of the Rolling Stones, in the process providing a launching pad for the superstardom of members Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel. Together with Yes, they were also without doubt the most influential of all progressive rock bands.

Formed in late 1969 by brothers Christian Descamps (vocals) and Francis Descamps (keyboards) and later joined by guitarist Jean-Michel Brézovar, bassist Daniel Haas and Gérard Jelsh on drums, this French symphonic progressive rock band, similar to contemporaries such as Genesis and King Crimson, is undoubtedly France's most important prog band…

Khatsaturjan is a present Finnish Progressive rock band whose name is a tribute to the most famous classical composer of the Soviet Union. The musicians making-up this non-standard band are all talented multi-instrumentalists, singing and performing keyboards, on top of their main device (Bass, drums, guitar & cello). Released in 2006 by the Musea label, "Aramed Forces Of Simantipak" is their first official album. This is a rock symphony of 70 minutes, no less! And this is similar to the best albums of the like that were recorded in the Seventies, as far as fusion between classical music and rock is concerned. Even if its style can evoke that of Genesis, Yes or Gentle Giant for the complexity of the vocal parts, this symphony reveals especially an outstanding musical identity…

Akritas created a unique piece of art, Greek in nature (vocals in Greek, though there are not many vocal parts, Mediterranian tunes throughout the album) and similar to Italian symphonic prog in approach, when lots of musical ideas change each other in a short period of time, making the music always unpredictable. Lots of contrasts, powerful organ chords, propulsive and at times aggresive drums, tasteful use of synthesizers, interesting guitar passages are the components of this short record.

Mother Black Cap are a British five piece band playing a brand of progressive rock music with its roots firmly in the Genesis, Pendragon, Grey Lady Down and The Gift territory. The second album ("The English Way", 2009) comprises seven tracks ranging from a minute to 17 minutes, the longer tracks giving the band time and scope for thematic developments from beautiful piano to pulsing synthesizer work and great melodic guitar solos. The stunning epic opus The English Way has thoughtful lyrics about how England and its culture has changed (for the better or worse?) over the last few decades. As well as the philosophical lyrics there are instrumental passages giving dramatic and dynamic changes with power and grace. An album that will appeal to those who like both vintage and modern progressive music…
