Damnation was the same Cleveland band previously known as the Damnation of Adam Blessing, who issued two albums on United Artists in 1969-1970. Why the name was shortened remains a mystery and has fouled up the consistency/accuracy of both Damnation and The Damnation of Adam Blessing discographies ever since.

Sticky Fingers Sessions is exactly what it says, songs from the recording sessions from the Sticky Fingers album, done between 1969 and 1970. They are different takes, versions, and alternate mixes not on the final version, most of which appear here with excellent sound quality.

The public is starved for music from the Big Three of rock and roll — an album and maybe a single a year isn't enough, and the rest of the musicians on both sides of the Atlantic are not providing enough excitement on their own to let us take what we get from Dylan, the Stones and the Beatles and be satisfied. We want more, and as the slogan goes, "find a hole and fill it," and thus it's being filled up fast.

This superb collection tells the story of Sly Stone's short-lived Stone Flower label, an imprint the soul/funk legend used to develop his production skills in between recording the legendary Stand! and It's A Riot Going On LPs. In particular, it saw him experimenting with early drum machines (see the sparse, atmospheric funk of Joe Hicks' "Life & Death In G&A (Part 1 &2)") and promoting the career of his younger sister Vanetta Stewart (a couple of 7" singles from the aptly named Little Sister).

The Meters made their anthemic funk cuts on Josie in the late '60s. The New Orleans crew backed Fats Domino, Lee Dorsey, and Aaron Neville before they started jamming on their own in the late '60s. Island issued this anthology of Josie material in the mid-'70s. It came out in the US too. Rounder has since reissued some of this material.

Ssssh was Ten Years After's new release at the time of their incendiary performance at the Woodstock Festival in August, 1969. As a result, it was their first hit album in the U.S., peaking at number 20 in September of that year. This recording is a primer of British blues-rock of the era, showcasing Alvin Lee's guitar pyrotechnics and the band's propulsive rhythm section. As with most of TYA's work, the lyrics were throwaways, but the music was hot. Featured is a lengthy cover of Sonny Boy Williamson's "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," with reworked lyrics leaving little doubt as to what the singer had in mind for the title character.

The Dutch Blues-Rock scene in the late 1960s / early 1970s was definitely the strongest on the Continent and second only to the British scene at the time. The band Cuby And The Blizzards was the undeniable king of the scene. Led by vocalist / harmonica player Harry Muskee, a.k.a. Cuby, the band changed its lineup many times over the years, but always featured exceptional players, especially lead guitarists. This is their 5 & 8th album. An absolute must to all Blues-Rock fans and a great document of European music history!
