Any project in the works for two decades is bound to generate its fair share of myths and so it is with Neil Young's Archives, a series of a multi-disc box sets chronicling Young's history. Originally envisioned in the late '80s as a Decade II, the project quickly mutated into a monster covering every little corner of Neil's career. With its escalation came delays, so many that it sometimes seemed that the project never really existed; it was just a shared fantasy between Neil and his faithful…

A great album recorded in 1963 for Atlantic – one of our favorite ever! Jack Wilson's one of our favorite piano players, and we rave about him all the time on these pages – and one of the reasons why we love him so much is that he was often accompanied by Roy Ayers, who started out his career playing vibes in his group! The pair together are a dream, and this album is arguably their best effort – filled with moody modal cuts, and lots of lyrical interplay that hits these beautiful high points, then dives into pits of darkness. Titles include "Harbor Freeway", "De Critifeux", "Corcovado", "Jackleg", and "Nirvana & Dana".

Fans of this group will want to know about the cover art, in this case a photo of a blonde tossing her hair around. Is she supposed to be Southern? That would tie in with what seems to be the theme of the "More Memphis" subtitle of this disc.

Master director Federico Fellini moved into the realm of self-reflexive autobiography with Marcello Mastroianni as Fellini's alter ego Guido Anselmi, a film director who, overwhelmed by the large-scale production he has undertaken, plunges into an interior world where fantasy and memory impinge on reality. Fellini jumbles narrative logic by freely cutting from flashbacks to dream sequences to the present until it becomes impossible to pry them apart, creating both a psychological portrait of Guido's interior world and the surrealistic, circus-like exterior world that came to be known as "Felliniesque."

With its highly stylized camerawork and fragmented narrative structure, Alain Robbe-Grillet s is a cinematic arabesque that teases the eye with visual delights yet sadistically confounds the viewer s expectations. Not dissimilar to Alan Resnais s Last Year at Marienbad, which he had written two years earlier, L IMMORTELLE involves a Frenchman (Jacques Doniol-Valcroze), traveling in Istanbul, fascinated by the city s language, architecture, and exotic culture. He soon becomes entranced by a mysterious woman (Françoise Brion), who seems to encourage his attentions but remains, maddeningly, just beyond his reach. His erotic pursuit of the woman leads him into the criminal underworld…with deadly consequences!
