The band was formed in 1989 by Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller, an American duo of multi-instrumentalists who handle keyboards, guitars, percussions, flute and trumpet, although they regularly enlist the contribution of talented guest musicians on drums and percussion. Heavily keyboard based (especially the piano), their style is a curious mixture of jazz, rock and classical (symphonic) music with dark, mysterious overtones without being sinister - more like suspenseful. Even when the guys kick into high gear the atmosphere remains tension-filled. As far as comparisons go, names such as Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator or ELP have surfaced but none truly convey the originality of this twosome, whose sublime interplay and strong emphasis on counterpoint cleverly blends all of these bands' styles and more, resulting in a unique contemporary sound of its own.

"Ritual Ground" (1993) is a spontaneous sonic combustion, rich in cinematic overtones, deep atmospheres and tribal-electronic grooves. Steve Roach's musical explorations have taken him into many different realms, always touching a primal nerve and evoking brilliant mindscapes for the listener. A respected and much followed solo artist, Roach has also embarked on many collaborations in which the interplay between musicians nourishes the creative process. "Ritual Ground" is the result of one of those instrumental partnerships and stands as an important landmark in the development of tribal music. In 1993, Roach went to Europe for his first series of concerts outside the United States. While there, he met German synthesizer artist Elmar Schulte, whose own work has appeared on several different European labels…

Mary Newsletter is a modern Italian band with a progressive rock style that owes a lot to Pink Floyd and even Dire Straits.
"Distratto Dal Sole" (1998) is an extremely thoughtful album, lushly loaded with shimmering ideas, simmering atmospheres and exquisite creativity. It does need total attention as the value takes time to surface. The immediate first impression is one of playful invention, with decidedly unpretentious delivery, featuring the quality guitar playing of Davide Pisi, whose style is a mixture of Mark Knopfler (that gritty bluesy tone), Jan Akkerman (the jazzier solo period) and at times, early David Gilmour…

The Winter Tree is the new moniker for the American outfit formerly known as Magus. Both are the main creative vehicle for composer/musician Andrew Laitres, and his latest collaborators Deb Bond (keyboards) and Mark Bond (vocals and guitars). Magus dates back to the mid 1980s and has many full length releases, but in 2010 Andrew changed the name to The Winter Tree after a song from one of his favorite bands, Renaissance. The self-titled debut album was released in 2011. Soft symphonic art rock with nods in the direction of folk music is what The Winter Tree explores on their debut album, music pastoral in spirit and expression, emphasizing gentle moods and careful melodies in a manner that should appeal well beyond the art rock universe…

Best known for being the keyboardist in La Maschera Di Cera, but mostly being a very versatile musician/composer who happens to be involved in several groups, Agostino Macor founded Zaal in 2002 as a jazz-prog project. Joining forces with a host of musicians that filled duties on violin, bass/cello/contrabass and drums, plus some guests, Macor managed to deliver a delicately colorful type of progressive-oriented jazz-rock, highly melodic and yet mysterious. The fluid incorporation of elements from symphonic prog, space-rock and chamber-rock gives the overall sound a rich set of atmospheres; simultaneously, the old school jazz factor helps the band to keep things lyrical.

Khatsaturjan is a present Finnish Progressive rock band whose name is a tribute to the most famous classical composer of the Soviet Union. The musicians making-up this non-standard band are all talented multi-instrumentalists, singing and performing keyboards, on top of their main device (Bass, drums, guitar & cello). Released in 2006 by the Musea label, "Aramed Forces Of Simantipak" is their first official album. This is a rock symphony of 70 minutes, no less! And this is similar to the best albums of the like that were recorded in the Seventies, as far as fusion between classical music and rock is concerned. Even if its style can evoke that of Genesis, Yes or Gentle Giant for the complexity of the vocal parts, this symphony reveals especially an outstanding musical identity…

4 Destinies (2014). "4 Destinies" is the third album recorded by the Italian composer and progressive rock musician Alex Carpani. This album is based on four possible destinies that a man may find on his life path, so actually it's more or less a concept album. Apart from Carpani (lead vocals, keyboards) the album had been recorded with David Jackson (ex-Van der Graaf Generator, saxophones, flutes), Ettore Salati (ex-The Watch, Soul Engine, DAAL, The Red Zen, guitars), GB Giorgi (bass), Alessandro Di Caprio (drums) and Joe Sal (additional vocals). From time to time the music on the four tracks tends in the direction of the classic progressive rock of the seventies. Four destinies, four long tracks with many changes in rhythm and mood, very rich in ideas and musical colours well performed by an excellent team of musicians…

Ulf Soderberg is the creative talent behind Sephiroth. The gorgeous gothic architecture his compositions are framed in resemble no one else's. They move the listener in a very specific way to the interior, far inside the composition's marrow, and then leave her or him there. Söderberg's music has the stamp of the dark northlands all over it, but there is a warmth and passion in it as well. He relates stories about the inexorable and destructive power of Time, mankind's futile attempts of resistance, and the sunken cities, fallen towers, and overgrown ruins that this has resulted in. Dark eerie soundscapes and ritualistic drums are combined with his own field recordings from places like Cairo, Iceland, and gloomy Nordic forests. Truly mysterious and truly fantastic.
